History

Dotonbori has a history of over 400 years and still attracts numerous people from all over the world. In 1612, “Dotonbori” was named after a man Doton Yasui, who excavated the canal putting his own money into it. After that, some theaters and teahouses were built on the south side of Dotonbori, and this area had flourished as the center of Japanese drama. Nowadays, the only one theater called “Shochikuza” is left, however the area still bustles with a lot of visitors to restaurants all year around.
